Who We Are

This Privacy Policy explains how Talking Cats (talkingcats.co.uk), operated by Figure1 Projects, collects, uses, and protects your personal data. We are the data controller for the purposes of UK GDPR.

What Data We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal data:

  • Email address - when you sign up for The Meows Letter newsletter or register interest in the Feline Diplomatic Corps.

  • Name - optionally provided at signup or membership enrolment.

  • Payment information - processed securely through our payment provider when purchasing a paid FDC membership or an Aristocrat Portrait. We do not store card details ourselves.

  • Submission content - diary entries, letters, and other creative content submitted through FDC membership channels.

  • Usage data - pages visited, time on site, and general browsing behaviour, collected via analytics tools (see Section 2.6).

 

How We Use Your Data

We use personal data for the following purposes:

  • To send The Meows Letter newsletter, where you have consented to receive it.

  • To manage your FDC membership, including access to member features and communications.

  • To fulfil portrait commissions and process payments.

  • To improve the site and understand how it is used, via analytics.

  • To respond to enquiries, you send us directly.

 

Our Legal Basis for Processing

Under UK GDPR, we rely on the following lawful bases:

  • Consent - for newsletter signup and marketing communications. You can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing via the link in any email.

  • Contract - for processing membership and portrait commission data.

  • Legitimate interests - for site analytics and security.

 

How Long We Keep Your Data

We retain your data for as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected:

  • Newsletter subscribers: until you unsubscribe.

  • FDC members: for the duration of your membership and a reasonable period thereafter.

  • Portrait commissions: for up to 7 years for tax and accounting purposes.

  • Analytics data: as configured in our analytics platform, typically 26 months.

 

Third Parties Who Process Your Data

We use the following third-party services that may process your personal data:

  • Wix - our website platform and additional email marketing platform (wix.com). Wix processes data in accordance with their own privacy policy and is GDPR compliant.

  • Wix Payments - Payment transactions made on this site are processed securely by Wix Payments. When you make a purchase, your payment details are handled directly by Wix Payments and are not stored by us. Wix Payments is compliant with PCI DSS standards.

  • MailerLite - an additional email marketing platform, is GDPR compliant and processes data under its own Data Processing Agreement.

  • Google Analytics 4 - used to understand site traffic and behaviour. Data is anonymised and processed in accordance with Google's privacy policy.

  • We do not sell your personal data to any third party. We share only what is necessary for the services above to function.

 

Your Rights

Under UK GDPR, you have the following rights:

  • The right to access the personal data we hold about you.

  • The right to correct inaccurate data.

  • The right to request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").

  • The right to restrict or object to processing.

  • The right to data portability.

  • The right to withdraw consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

If you are not satisfied with how we handle your data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
